This whole getting-back-in-shape thing is rough.
I’m feeling so much sympathy for first-time runners – it’s easy to forget how hard the starting up phase is when you’re used to never actually getting out of shape! But seriously, it’s such a sucky suffer-fest of gasping for air, pitifully short runs, achy muscles, and hopelessness.
I just need to keep reminding myself that, no matter how unpleasantly taxing even the shortest runs are, I’m at least getting the runs in. Every footstep puts me one step closer to a completed run, every run puts me one run closer to a completed week of running, and every week of running brings me closer to getting back into racing shape!
Patience, patience, patience…
